About Accounting Accelerated
Hi, my name is Jamie and I currently studying to become a Chartered Accountant.
This blog was created to let you share my journey and learn a bit more about accountancy along the way.
I am from the UK and am studying towards my CA qualification through ICAS. I currently work for a large firm with the General Practice department which means my day-to-day focus is on sole traders, partnerships and small company accounts.
Since starting my career as an accountant I have ended up realising that accountancy is more than just numbers and spreadsheets (although often it does involve a lot of both)! Accountancy is the back bone of business and is the necessary tool to help businesses thrive. Whether it’s through accounts to show the companies financial position or through more complicated aspects of accounting such as tax relief.
This is what really interests me about accountancy. The fact that there are so many different types of sector, departments and specialisms. As a man on the train to Bridge of Allan said to me:
“If you get your CA the world is your oyster”.
This is true in two senses. First of all becoming a charted accountant is very highly thought of and opens many doors. Secondly, there is so many different career paths you can go into as a chartered accountant. From working in public practice to working in industry to working in a niche startup that needs a Financial Director.
I would love it if you would join me as I continue my journey and find out where I end up.
